Fantasy inspiration from planet Earth

This isn't a fantasy novel. It's non-fiction. But some of the facts are so bizarre and fantastical that I drew inspiration from it. The fantasy novel I'm working on now has a lot of animals who exhibit magical adaptations, and this book was perfect to fire up my imagination.
Highly recommended, not just for the terrific subject matter but for the effortless, humorous writing style.
